Working out the timing. (updated)

One of the things that makes diabetes such an intense disease to manage is the fact that it is so individualized. Each person's body reacts differently to carb intake and medications.  I am in the process of working  this out for myself. I will be sharing this process here on my personal blog which is also published to my twitter and facebook pages.

When starting a new medication it is very important to make sure you have a good support structure around you. Me, I have the great people of the CU  Endocrinology Dept., Team Type 2/Team Type 1 teammates, Tour de Cure Committee friends, and my wonderfully supportive girlfriend Patty.

Looking at my journal below, I think I am getting near the right timing. Perhaps a little more time between the injection of Apidra and the intake of carbs will give the Apidra a little more time to get into my system and get to work keeping the +200mg/dl spike from happeni

My plan for the evening was to wait for 1 hour after taking the Apidra before I ate my dinner.  Dinner was a similar carb load to breakfast so I could see if waiting longer kept my bg from going over 200mg/dl. Looks like it did!

You can view my SugarStats log by clicking on the following link: https://manage.sugarstats.com/zinrider

So, the plan at this time is to wait 1 hour after I in ject the Apidra before I eat. This is for minimally active days. On active days, the timing may be the same, but the dosage may be differeent. Stay tuned ...

120mg/dl

Have only had coffee with half-n-half this morning.

107mg/dl 2 hour post meal

Supprised to see such a good 2 hour post meal number here! WooHoo!

134mg/dl fasting glucose

I'm happy to see a much better number than yesterday.

172mg/dl

239mg/dl

I took my blood sugar this mornging and was totally shocked! 239mg/dl! DAMN! I have not seen a number that high in a long time. I guess with everything that is going on right now has had a bigger impact on me than I had thought. TeamType2 is really starting to move forward! I am so very excited! I am setting up a training plan now to get myself back on track and on track to RACE ACROSS AMERICA inspiring others with Type 2 Deabetes to live a healty life!
