Diabetes Forecast Article Published!
A couple of months ago I was fortunate enough to be asked to interview for the American Diabetes Association's Diabetes Forecast magazine. The article has recently been published. You can read it by clicking here.
Little did I know at the time, but my story would have an unexpected impact on the Editorial Director of the magazine, Sara Sklaroff. She posted a very nice editor's note here. Sara is blogging about her experieces in getting ready for the Tour de Cure here.
I am truly humbled.
Hey Sara!
Congrats on the Tour de Cure ride! YOU ROCK! Wish I could have been there to ride it with you!
When I first started riding, I rode an old mountain bike. Very little at first. Just out with the kids for a few turns around the block. Then to the park with the kids & back. After a some time, I started riding to and from work. (7 miles each way).
I found a web site with the most supportive people I had ever met, who took me under thier wing, and guided me further into the world of cycling. That web site is http://www.bikejournal.com. The friends I made there supported me and made be believe I could do anything! They got me to do my first century ride (100 miles). Thanks to my bikejournal friends, I am where I am today. Many great adventures with them on the bike. In fact, I moved to Colorado because of them! It is a far better place to live a healthy life than in Montana.
Please let me know if you would like more details etc... I'll be happy to provide very detailed information after we finish RAAM!
By the way, are you going to come out to see us at the finish line?

Hey there, hero! And thanks for the shoutout. I'd love to hear more about how you first started--how often were you biking at first, was it hard at the bigger weight, etc. We think a lot, at the magazine, about how to help people get started on the road to health, so I am always interested in the nitty-gritty of it.
